Course Description

Gender Sensitivity Training in the Workplace is a course that explores a wide range of the deeply held beliefs people have regarding sex and gender and explains how these issues play out in organizations. Each of the fifteen lessons is designed to give you a deeper understanding of a specific issue related to gender sensitivity, and will conclude with a quiz that reviews the terms and concepts discussed in the lesson.
 
We will begin with "An Introduction to Gender Sensitivity in the Workplace" and an overview of the issues before moving on to "Building a Gender Sensitive Vocabulary" where you will begin to build a useful and gender-diverse vocabulary. The next two lessons, "Unpacking Sex/Gender Stereotypes" and "LGBT Issues" examine stereotypes and their effect on women, LGBTQ people, and men in the workplace. These lessons provide a range of possible solutions for mediating differences and implementing gender-neutral language that is respectful of all employees. Then we'll look at "Gender Stereotyping in the Military" in order to examine the gendered arguments surrounding the discussion that led to service women finally being allowed to serve in combat units. The next three lessons will address Communication, Leadership and Teamwork and will show you how to foster gender sensitive communication methods, leadership skills, and teamwork practices.
 
Then we will explore sexual harassment, its impact on the individual, employees and the organization, and how to address sexual harassment in the workplace. We'll turn back to LGBTQ issues and look at "Making the Workplace Friendly for LGBTQ Individuals" before discussing practical ways in which to develop Strategies for "Developing Gender Sensitive Workplaces". Finally, we'll end the course with a look at why the "Future is Global Gender Sensitivity in the Workplace" and why global gender sensitivity is absolutely essential for everyone on the planet.
